Welcome

Gardiner Sanitary District was formed in the 1970's to support the development, and maintenance of infrastructure for the citizens of Gardiner, Oregon.

We're located in a bio-diverse, gem of a community, where the Umpqua and Smith rivers converge, smack in the middle of the Dunes Recreational Area on the Oregon Coast.

The Gardiner Sanitary District is comprised of a group of volunteer community members and a very small staff. We continue to work out of the same office building we built in the 1970's. And we continue to share a portion of our building with the Gardiner Fire Department.

Here in Gardiner, there is incredible potential for a thriving community with a combination of industry, commerce, hospitality, and tourism. The Gardiner Sanitary District is aware of the responsibility that comes with these opportunities, and we're serious about doing our best for our community.

We have some interesting challenges ahead of us because the majority of our community members believe we need our own sewage treatment plant, right here in Gardiner.

Although this blog is new, the process is already underway to get our new Gardiner sewage treatment plant up and running. As you can imagine, we're working on several requirements right now, and they're all going on simultaneously. These include, but are not limited to: Grant writing, DEQ procedures, site prep, funding sourcing, fee structures, maintenance of current facilities and equipment, etc.

It's all happening at once: We're running our daily operations while we work on our new sewer plant.

If you'd like to see this process in action, we invite you to join us at our monthly board meeting. The Gardiner Sanitary board meetings are open to the public, and are held every 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at the Gardiner Sanitary District offices, located at 208 Marsh St. in Gardiner OR 97441.

Very rarely, we have to make adjustments to the meeting time/place. We will inform the community of any change via this blog, and a posting at the local Post Office in Gardiner. So, please check back occasionally, or subscribe to our blog feed to stay in the loop.

Thank you for stopping by to learn more about the community of Gardiner, and what the Gardiner Sanitary District has been working on.
